How do you make health education engaging for children and teenagers in rural areas? Simple: bring it directly to them—with smiles, good vibes, and interactive activities. On May 7, 2025, over 350 students from Pârteștii de Jos learned, played, and asked curious questions during the third edition of the Educational Caravan “Health in Motion”, organized by the ASSIST Humanitarian Foundation.
From toothbrushes to first aid lessons, sports games to emotional nutrition, the entire day was a truly educational experience for both primary and high school students. Here’s what happened:
The event started with a captivating oral health session led by dentist Iulian Tiniuc, a trusted project partner. He spoke to children about the importance of proper brushing, daily hygiene, and regular dental visits to prevent issues early on. The session ended with an engaging Q&A, where students participated enthusiastically, showing genuine interest and curiosity.
Representatives from the Suceava Public Health Directorate (DSP) addressed essential topics such as personal hygiene and the risks associated with harmful substances. Younger students learned how daily habits can help prevent illness, while teenagers were encouraged to reflect on the choices they make, especially regarding alcohol, drugs, or negative influences. Dr. Anca Stroescu and nurse Aga Ziga translated medical concepts into a friendly, easy-to-understand language.
One of the most anticipated moments was the first aid demonstration by Suceava’s Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU). Under the guidance of Petty Officer Daniel Boțoc, students learned how to respond in critical situations such as accidents, fires, or earthquakes. The hands-on demonstrations helped them retain the essential steps and overcome fears of real-life emergencies. It was an important lesson in calmness, responsibility, and engagement.
Two sessions led by the Suceava County Police Inspectorate highlighted the importance of responsible behavior in traffic. Students learned vital safety rules for pedestrians and cyclists and how to avoid dangerous situations in traffic and daily life. Discussions also addressed sensitive issues such as violence prevention and risky behavior, promoting empathy and respect within the community.
Florin Ghervan, a dietitian at Nutri-Fit, tackled a lesser-discussed but very relevant topic: the link between food and emotional well-being. Students discovered that we often eat not out of hunger, but due to boredom, stress, or anxiety. The interactive session “Food and Emotions” offered practical advice on choosing healthier snacks and becoming more aware of one's body.
The kids moved from theory to action, joining games and sports activities coordinated by coach Andrei Gafița from LPS Suceava. The atmosphere resembled a mini competition, but the focus was on the joy of movement and the benefits of physical exercise for a balanced life. With big smiles and energized steps, students ended the day healthier and more motivated.
In addition to all the valuable information, each child went home with a personal hygiene kit and a fruit bar - a concrete invitation to apply what they had learned.
“In the first two editions of the caravan, we reached 663 children in Udești commune. We’re happy that, together with our partners, we can carry forward this project that brings not just education but also hope to communities with limited access to medical services,” said Cătălina Micliuc, Vice President of the ASSIST Humanitarian Foundation.
“Health in Motion” doesn’t stop here. The Foundation plans to reach more and more villages across Suceava County, providing young people with the resources they need to grow up healthy, physically, emotionally, and socially.
