Hands-on Education and Inclusion: ASSIST Humanitarian Foundation Initiatives for Students in Suceava

Summer break offers a great chance to take learning beyond standard classroom routines and into practical territory. Through direct partnerships with local schools, ASSIST Humanitarian Foundation consistently backs educational projects in Suceava, channeling resources toward online safety, practical tech skills, creativity, and initiatives designed for children with special educational needs (SEN).  

This summer, the foundation focused on two clear directions: hands-on workshops for students at Școala Gimnazială Nr. 1 Suceava, and music-driven social inclusion through a program hosted by Școala Gimnazială Nr. 8 Suceava.  

Technology, Online Safety, and Creativity at Școala Gimnazială Nr. 1 Suceava 

During the summer camp organized by Școala Gimnazială Nr. 1 Suceava, 29 children took part in a two-day program built around active learning.  

The first day kicked off in the schoolyard with a dance and movement session, before the group headed over to the ASSIST Software headquarters. There, Eduard Huțu and Alexandru Popițan led an interactive workshop on digital education and online safety. The explanations were tailored to the children's age, giving them practical advice on how to browse responsibly, protect their personal data, and recognize common cyber risks. The day wrapped up at the office with a live demo of the company's robot dog, followed by ice cream provided by Betty Ice.  

Day two shifted focus entirely to hands-on creativity through a LEGO building competition supplied by Brick Depot. Each child worked independently on their own build, in an energetic room that showed genuine focus and patience right from the start. The participants had full freedom to experiment: testing out piece combinations, rebuilding on the fly whenever a design felt unstable, and putting together a remarkably diverse mix of projects, from buildings and vehicles to abstract models. Everyone was driven to see their idea through to the end. At the end of the competition, all 29 participants received certificates, and the organizers awarded prizes to the top three builds.  

The “Bella Italia” Summer School: Social Inclusion Through Music 

The second initiative centered on bringing children with special educational needs (SEN) into shared artistic activities. From July 20 to 24, Școala Gimnazială Nr. 8 Suceava hosted the 3rd edition of the "Bella Italia" Inter-County Summer School. The project brought together children and young people with Down syndrome from Suceava, Iași, Brașov, and Constanța, alongside members of the ROGVAIV and VOCES school choirs, under the theme of Italian culture.  

Throughout the week, the participants rehearsed a shared musical repertoire, with the workshops serving as an open space for communication and real connection.  

ASSIST Humanitarian Foundation backed the initiative as a sponsor, covering the full cost of the professional conductor who led the vocal coaching all week long. That dedicated guidance meant activities could be adjusted to each participant's pace, showing how music and group singing can break down communication barriers and create genuine inclusion.  

Steady Support for Local Education 

Whether it is cybersecurity, robotics, or inclusion programs for children with special needs, these summer initiatives deliver real value to the local community. The ongoing collaboration between ASSIST Humanitarian Foundation and schools in Suceava gives students direct access to IT mentors, hands-on materials, and experiences that naturally round out standard schooling.
