100 original artworks donated by artist Virgiliu Parghel to the ASSIST Humanitarian Foundation
What do generosity and art have in common? Both can inspire, create, impact, and influence us. Both can change the way we see the world. And both make a difference in our lives. This perspective led to a new and unique fundraising campaign by Fundația Umanitară ASSIST, involving the well-known Romanian contemporary painter Virgiliu Parghel.
Recently, artist Virgiliu Parghel donated 100 of his original works to Fundația Umanitară ASSIST. The collection includes sketches and pastels from different periods of his career. Each piece reflects a stage in his artistic development and his ongoing engagement with color, composition, and form. Delivered in their original condition, these works provide us with a direct insight into the artist's life and evolution.
This artwork donation is connected to our most ambitious project, the renovation of the "Ion Carp Fluierici" auditorium at Ciprian Porumbescu College of Arts in Suceava. This auditorium has been a key space for students and regional cultural events for decades. Therefore, we encourage you to contribute to this cause, and as a token of gratitude, you receive one of Virgiliu Parghel's paintings!
Each piece is delivered in its original state, alongside a certificate and a contract acknowledging the donation and its legal framework.
Virgiliu Parghel and his belonging to the Suceava community
What makes this donation quite special is the artist's connection to Suceava. Our city has long been a cultural and historical crossroads in northern Romania, and Virgiliu Parghel's story is deeply tied to it in many ways.
He first came to Suceava as a child, accompanying his mother, herself an artist. Those early visits exposed him to spaces, techniques, and experiences that would later influence his own practice. Years later, Suceava became the place where his artistic path began to take shape as an art teacher. Even if his career led him to Bucharest and beyond, the connection to Suceava is present through the works he offers back to the community.
Virgiliu Parghel has had a career spanning more than fifty years. For decades, he has balanced his own creative practice with teaching. He studied under the renowned Corneliu Baba at the Nicolae Grigorescu Institute of Arts in Bucharest, perfecting his own artistic approach. Between 1979 and 1990, he taught painting in Suceava, then continued as assistant and lecturer in Iași and Bucharest. Over the years, his work has entered public collections, including the Suceava Art Museum, as well as private collections across Europe and North America.
Critics, including Vladimir Bulat, note that Parghel's work invites viewers "to see what is essential, the state of things that matter for people, so they remain human." This perspective is also noticeable in the 100 works offered to Fundația Umanitară ASSIST. They are precise, deliberate, and reflective of a lifetime of practice. These artworks are a record of decades of practice, observation, and instruction.
