ASSIST Humanitarian Foundation prepares teachers for supporting children with special educational needs (SEN)

Education is one of the core values of the ASSIST Humanitarian Foundation, and projects dedicated to children and teachers are a central part of our mission. Over the past year, the foundation has implemented an extensive training program for teachers in Suceava County, designed to enhance the integration of children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) into the school environment.  

So far, 100 teachers, primary school educators, and school psychologists from the public education system have benefited from free training delivered by specialised instructors. During the sessions held in March, April, and November, participants had the opportunity to develop essential skills for creating a more accessible, empathetic, and inclusive learning environment, one where every child is seen, understood, and supported. 

This initiative is made possible through the collaboration among the ASSIST Humanitarian Foundation, the Suceava County School Inspectorate, and the “George Tofan” Teaching Staff House, institutions that share a common commitment to inclusive education.  

To support teachers, the foundation has fully covered participation fees and awarded special scholarships, an investment that has totalled 120,500 RON to date, including course fees, instructor incentives, and other necessary expenses.  

We are encouraged by the growing interest shown by teachers and their willingness to make a real difference for children with SEN. In each session, 50 participants continue to expand their knowledge and strengthen their skills, contributing to the development of a more empathetic and adaptable education system.

Our long-term goal is ambitious yet essential: to train over 1,000 teachers within the next few years. We firmly believe that a strong community begins with strong education, and this program represents a crucial step toward creating a school environment that is open to all children.
